IMPORTANT TO READ BEFORE YOU PURCHASE ANY BRAND OF REEL MOWER:
TRU-CUT Reel Mowers are far superior to any other brand for many reasons, the most important being the WHEEL DRIVE Transmission.
Reel mowers are offered with two different types of transmissions, ROLLER DRIVE or WHEEL DRIVE.
Reel Mowers equipped with ROLLER DRIVE Transmissions are offered by by several manufacturers including McCLANE, & EVERGREEN, aka CALIFORNIA TRIMMER
THE ROLLER DRIVE TRANSMISSIONS were designed in the 1960's and use a 12" to 14" roller located in the rear of the mower to propel the mower forward. The method of engaging the transmission is to raise and lower the roller any time you want to start or stop. This is a very old-fashioned and labor-intensive design.
We no longer offer any brand of reel mower with ROLLER DRIVE transmissions due to numerous complaints of torn turf, and operator difficulty using the machine.
TRU-CUT is the only mower that is equipped with the far superior WHEEL DRIVE Transmission. To engage, you simply press the thumb lever conveniently located under your left thumb.
The TRU-CUT Wheel Drive Transmission is also a "personal pace" system, which enables you to easily adjust the speed of the mower to your individual walking speed . . . anywhere between 0 and 2.8 MPH. If you prefer, you can also push the thumb lever all the way down into the locked position, resulting in a 2.8 MPH ground speed.
All of the Tru-Cut Reel Mowers we sell are equipped with the much preferred WHEEL DRIVE TRANSMISSION.
If you have questions about the different transmission types, or anything else, please let me know, we are here to help!
